CS2 is arguably locally popular, but you can't add it easily in VE. :Indeed.  I like CS2 (the {{tl|citation}} template) as it eliminates the silly distinction between web and newspapers for sources such as ''The Guardian'' or ''NYT'' which are both.  And I like [[WP:LDR|list-defined references]] too.  So, I use the generate function in VE to create the citations and then toggle to the wikitext editor to reformat them into my preferred format. ::::As you can see from the documentation you linked above, you could add {{tl|citation}} to the list.  However, the auto-filling citoid service probably wouldn't use it much (or at all) in practice.  It doesn't have a concept of "style" or article-specific conventions.  It only has a concept of "source type".  All sources of a given type are put into the same template.  If most editors want news sites like ''The Guardian'' or ''New York Times'' to use {{tl|cite news}}, then it will fill out {{tl|cite news}} for those websites in all articles, even if you wanted it to use {{tl|citation}} for those sources in the article you're editing. *:@[[User:VersaceSpace|VersaceSpace]], what other kinds of wiki-markup do you want to use in the visual editor?  "Rich editing" of templates is surprisingly difficult (think "a large team for a couple of years" difficult, but no worse than that).  Ref names were available in 2013, and then removed.  I don't remember why it was removed (only that it was there, and then it wasn't), but since it once existed, I assume that it would be manageable.  It was proposed in the Community Wishlist in the past, but didn't get enough votes to win.
